TCC kicks off 2009-2010 Tech@Night schedule with open house

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Tech@Night, Tallahassee Community College’s innovative technology training series, will kick off the 2009-2010 schedule with an open house, Monday August 31, from 5:30-7 pm., at the TCC Capitol Center.

Classes for 2009-2010 will be held in five locations in the tri-county area. The TCC Capitol Center session will kick off September 9, followed by TCC’s Center for Workforce Development (September 21), Florida Public Safety Institute (September 21), The Quincy House (September 10) and The Wakulla Center (September 10).

“The Tech@Night workshop style classes have become wildly popular since its launch in September 2007,” said Beverly Smith, Tech@Night Program Coordinator. Individuals in need of short-term, one-night training sessions in multimedia, current technology and upcoming computer technologies can take customized, instructor-led workshops for basic to intermediate level training. Today’s most popular computer programs such as Photoshop, Indesign, Infopath, in addition to Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 are taught. The 2009-2010 schedule will also include classes on navigating new personal technologies, such as social networking and smart phones.

“In the current economy, many in our community may be ‘underemployed’ and could benefit from upgrading technical skills through Tech@Night to prepare them for their next career move,” said Dr. John Chapin, Vice President of TCC’s Division of Economic and Workforce Development.

TCC continues to expand course offerings, based on the most sought after skills. Participants can take either a single workshop or an entire series to gain the necessary skills.

“This program offers something for everyone,” said Smith “It’s for the individual who wants to learn more about personal technologies, the employer who wants to upgrade employee skills and the employee who wants to improve skills for a current or future job.”

Individual classes are $25 per session and all classes at all locations are held from 6-9 p.m.

Participants who register for a class series by September 8 will receive a free flash drive.
