Tallahassee Community College will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its Ghazvini Center for Health Care Education at 11 a.m, Monday, March 23 on Surgeons Drive.
Years in the making, two significant markers helped pave the way for the upcoming groundbreaking event. Most recently, in 2006, TCC received a $2 million gift from the Ghazvini family, the largest private donation in the College's history. However, one year earlier, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare's gift of land, located in the heart of Tallahassee's medical corridor, provided the location for the Center.
“While the Center is named for the Ghazvini family, whose lead gift made its development possible, other significant gifts have been received as well,” said Robin Johnston, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Executive Director, TCC Foundation. “This facility is truly a community asset, and the community is embracing this and stepping forward to be a part of it.”
When complete, the facility will feature 85,000 square feet of learning space devoted to diagnostic medical sonography, emergency medical services, nursing, radiologic technology and respiratory care. Cutting-edge technology will be a staple of the Center, allowing students to respond to emergencies in simulated real-time settings. The Center will also house classrooms, conference rooms, a library, laboratory space, a simulation center and administrative offices for TCC's Division of Health Care Professions.
“Our vision for the Center is to provide the highest quality, state-of-the-art learning environment for education and training in all areas of health care education and training,” said Dr. Lois Ewen, Dean of Health Care Professions. “The location of the Center will also help us to better serve the healthcare community's needs for all types of training programs. We are very grateful to the Ghazvini family and other donors for their generous donations and support that has resulted in the development of this wonderful facility.”
Equally important for TCC, the Center will enable the College to increase its enrollment capacity in health care programs by close to 100 percent over the next five years.
